In this blog series, international experts on the topic of analyzing online job advertisements present their work. The presentations were given at the 9th OJA Forum, which is jointly organized twice a year by the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training and the Bertelsmann Stiftung. Topics at the 9th OJA Forum included the further development of existing taxonomies. Taxonomies are systematic classification systems used to organize information according to specific criteria – for example, to classify occupations, skills, or qualifications. Another key topic was how to link training content with labor market requirements. In this video blog series, the presentations will be published one after the other. The second talk is by Francesco Losappio from the European Commission Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion and Jan Luts from NTT Data.

Data science solutions for ESCO developments

The talk will offer an overview of how the Commission applies data science techniques for the maintenance and further development of the ESCO classification. ESCO (European Skills, Competences, Qualifications and Occupations) is a multilingual classification system developed by the European Commission to describe and categorize occupations and skills relevant to the EU labour market and education systems, enabling digital platforms to match jobseekers with jobs or training opportunities based on their skill profiles. It offers a standardized “common language” with over 3,000 occupations and nearly 14,000 skills translated into 28 languages, supporting labour mobility and integration across Europe.
