In this blog series, international experts such as Julia Nania, Research Lead at Lightcast (Emsi Burning Glass is now Lightcast), give insight into their work in the field of online job advertisements (OJA) analysis. Lightcast provides data such as Traditional Labor Market Information, Job Posting Analytics or Profile Data to businesses, education providers and communities to respond to the changing labor market.
Talk Julia Nania: Big data for the labour market: use cases of OJA data
Julia Nania presents research examples using data from their global database of online job postings. Her talk highlights the valuable insights that can be drawn from this granular, rich, and timely data set. The results show how the data can be used to track changes in the labour market, for example in times of crisis. We can use it to understand how employers adapt to these changes or which specific skills are in demand. It also allows us to track emerging markets like artificial intelligence or create up-to-date occupation profiles and possible career paths which can support the reskilling of workers.

The talks prepared here were given at the OJA Forum in May 2022, co-hosted by the Bertelsmann Foundation and the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training. The OJA Forum aims to connect experts in the analysis of OJA, to discuss methodological challenges, and to update each other on the current state of research. Furthermore, it is intended to contribute to further exploiting the potential of OJA analysis and to pave the way for further study ideas and cooperations.
